In response to a significant water incident affecting five units within a residential complex, urgent restoration measures were taken by the AllAces NSW team to prevent further damage and health hazards. The team conducted immediate water extraction and moisture level assessments to address extensive damage and mitigate the risks of mould and structural damage. Tailored restoration efforts by AllAces NSW, including the removal of contaminated carpeting and mattresses and the strategic use of drying equipment, successfully preserved the structural integrity of the units and ensured a safe, healthy living environment for the residents. This project exemplified the crucial role of rapid and targeted responses in emergency building management, highlighting the effectiveness of the AllAces NSW team in such critical situations.
A significant water incident affected five units within a residential complex, necessitating urgent restoration to prevent further damage and health hazards. The water damage was extensive, with immediate action required to extract water and assess the moisture levels to mitigate the risks of mould and structural damage. The complexity of the situation was heightened by the varying degrees of damage across different units, which called for a tailored approach to each.
Exposed areas were treated with antimicrobials to disinfect and prevent the growth of mould.
The response began with extracting all standing water from the affected units. A thorough moisture assessment was then conducted to identify the most severely impacted areas. Based on these assessments, drying equipment was promptly installed to stabilise the environment and prevent further moisture penetration. The restoration efforts escalated with the removal and disposal of all carpeting in units 11, 13, 17, and 21 to eliminate any sources of dampness and potential mould growth. Mattresses in units 13 and 17 were also disposed of due to contamination. The exposed areas were then treated with antimicrobials to disinfect and prevent the growth of mould. To enhance the drying process, an additional 16 drying fans and 5 dehumidifiers were installed across the units. Subsequent moisture checks were scheduled, ensuring that the drying process was progressing. By the final moisture checks, the conditions had improved significantly, allowing for the removal of all drying equipment as per the client’s advice.
The strategic and phased approach to the water damage in the residential complex led to a successful restoration of the affected units. By implementing a comprehensive moisture control and treatment plan, the risk of long-term damage and health issues associated with mould and structural weakness was effectively mitigated. The residents were able to return to a safe and healthy living environment, and the structural integrity of the units was preserved. This project not only restored the damaged properties but also reinforced the importance of rapid and targeted responses in managing building emergencies.
