Currumbin is a popular destination on the Gold Coast with locals and tourists who enjoy the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. The park was opened in 1947 as Currumbin Bird Sanctuary originally to try and stop the local lorikeet population from destroying some flower plantations. The lorikeets still flock to the park twice a day to be fed by the visitors. The sanctuary has one of the largest collections of Australian native species in the world. The animals include birds, dingoes, reptiles, Tasmanian devils and even crocodiles. The miniture railway which is popular with the kids has been operating since 1964.

Tallebudgera is set just back from the coast located on the beautiful Tallebudgera Creek. For many years school children have been coming to the Tallebudgera Recreation Camp. Tugun is located just north of Coolangatta airport. Tugun is at the junction of the Pacific and Gold Coast Highways and has previously been known as an extremely traffic clogged area. This traffic has improved dramatically since the opening of the Tugun Bypass in 2008. Just South of Tugun is Bilinga with one of the smallest populations on the Gold Coast. Members of the Bilinga Surf Lifesaving Club patrol the beach on weekends and public holidays from September to May.
