Upholstery and carpet protection should not just be considered the ‘premium add-on’ to your clean, it is integral in ensuring the longevity, hygiene, and aesthetic appeal of your soft furnishings.
When your upholstery and carpets are protected it ensures that they are maintained to the best possible condition. Your carpets and fabrics will stay clean and retain that beautiful ‘brand new’ look for longer, as liquid, dust, food, and dirt are prevented from penetrating the fibres. See our section on The Many Benefits of Upholstery & Carpet Protection below for a more detailed explanation for how this works.
Many carpets and upholstered furniture already come with some type of protector applied to their fibres. Protection will last roughly three professional cleans. Read on for a run down on how protectors work.
When protectors are applied to fibres, an increase in surface tension is created. Practically speaking, this means that any liquid spilt on the fibres will have fewer spaces to enter the surface. The liquid will merely bead or pill up on the fabric, as it is now incapable of penetrating the fibres. Therefore, any spill is much simpler to clean off the surface and is fair less likely to stain.
It is important that you blot off as much liquid possible and/or scrape off all solids remaining to prevent damage to your carpet or upholstered furniture. Immediately blot any spills with a damp paper towel or a napkin, repeat if necessary. If the stain cannot be removed, you should call a professional stain removal company and seek advice.
Upholstery and carpet protectors penetrate and completely engulf the fibres. If a liquid is spilt from high above the carpet, it will seep into the base of the fibres and then the casing. This destroys the carpet’s internal structure which allows easier access for dust, dirt, and food to enter, as well as accelerated mould and mildew formation. However, when fabric protection is applied, every fibre is fully coated so the spill is completely contained, making the clean-up much simpler and easier.
