5 Types of Carpet Cleaning Techniques

5 Types of Carpet Cleaning Techniques

Here is an explanation of the 5 Types of Carpet Cleaning Techniques that carpet cleaning companies can perform on your carpets. We hope this would help you understand what to expect every time you have your carpet professionally cleaned.

1. Dry Powder Cleaning

Dry powder cleaning involves a technique called “the host system”. In this technique, a soft, natural cleaning product is combined with a small amount of water, detergent, and a safe-to-use solvent. This mixture is then sprinkled onto the carpet, creating clumps that look like pieces of sawdust. These clumps act like micro-sponges that dissolve and absorb dirt. Later, the clumps are vacuumed out to reveal a cleaner carpet surface. This method is not considered a ‘deep clean’ since it just removes dirt from the surface of a carpet. This is an appropriate maintenance cleaning technique for commercial use.

2. Encapsulation Cleaning

In encapsulation cleaning, the carpet is first vacuumed before the encapsulating chemical is applied. A rotary agitation machine is then placed on the carpet, allowing encapsulating chemical to absorb and isolate the dirt on the carpet. The resulting product is vacuumed away. The low-moisture system makes this cleaning process fast and with minimum downtime. Carpets can, therefore, be put back into use promptly. This is a great carpet maintenance-cleaning method for commercial use, perfect to maintain the surface of high foot traffic carpet.

3. Bonnet Cleaning

Also called “Dry Cleaning” by some companies, this is in fact not a dry cleaning process but a low moisture one. As only the surface of the carpet is treated, the carpet is usually dry in 30 minutes. In Bonnet Cleaning, self-neutralising detergent is sprayed onto the carpet then agitated with a rotary scrubber that has a dry cotton bonnet pad attached. This is an appropriate maintenance cleaning technique for commercial use.

4. Hot Water Extraction

Hot water extraction involves a combination of high temperature water mixed with cleaning agents that is injected into the carpet at high pressure to loosen the dirt, stains and soil from its fibre. A powerful vacuum extracts the dirty water and debris from the carpet. Hot Water Extraction is an effective deep-cleaning method for commercial and domestic use. This method helps to  remove dirt trapped way down into the carpet fibres.

5. Professional Steam Cleaning

In Professional steam cleaning, steam is expelled at high pressure and high temperature to help get rid of bacteria, dust mites and odour. This method is effective to remove dirt, mould and scents from carpets as well as considerably improve their appearance. This deep-cleaning is ideal for both commercial and domestic use.

When dealing with a carpet cleaning company, a technician should be able to recommend you the best carpet cleaning method for you depending on the style of your carpet, the amount of dirt it holds and the result you wish to achieve.
