Moth Damage on Rugs

Moth Damage on Rugs

Clothes moths have the potential to do substantial damage to your clothes. They are usually found in dark, quiet rooms and places where the vacuum cleaner cannot easily reach, such as under chairs and behind sofas. They prefer to feed on soiled and stained rugs, so it is best not to store rugs without cleaning them first. Clean rugs are less susceptible to insect infestations as the important vitamins and minerals that are necessary to complete the moth’s development are not present. Indications of moth infestations are small, flying adult moths. These flying insects indicate that the infestation is considerable. Look for loose pile yarns on top of the rug, small depressions on the surface of the rug or missing yarns on the back of your rug.

Moth Prevention

The most effective way to prevent an infestation and inhibit growth is to keep rugs clean. Routine vacuuming and cleaning of the rug and home are necessary to help prevent moth infestation.

Our Solution

After cleaning and removing as many of the larvae as possible with our professional carpet cleaning and pest control services, we can offer to spray the rug with an insect deterrent. This product is not “bullet proof” but is an additional step to prevent infestation.
