How the work is actually done
This work either follows a recognised method or it follows whoever turned up. This is how ours is set and how it is evidenced.
Every odour treatment that fails has the same cause: the residue was still there. Fogging or ozoning a room with contaminated underlay still in it buys days, not a result.
Hard surfaces, soft furnishings, ductwork and cavities each need a different approach. Using one method everywhere is what leaves pockets of smell behind.
Ducted systems redistribute smoke residue through a whole building and then keep re-releasing it. If the system is not addressed, the rest of the work is undone every time it runs.
Odour is assessed after the property has been shut for a period, not with the windows open and equipment still running. That is the only honest test.

Two ways of oxidising odour molecules in air. Ozone requires the space to be unoccupied during treatment; hydroxyl generally does not. Both treat air, neither removes residue.

It depends on the method. Ozone treatment requires the space to be unoccupied while it runs and ventilated afterwards. Most other work does not, and you will be told which applies before the day.
It will reduce what you smell while it runs, and the smell will return when it stops. A purifier filters air; it does not remove residue from carpet underlay or a wall cavity.
